About User-Agent Parser

The User-Agent Parser decodes a User-Agent string into a readable summary: the browser and version, operating system, rendering engine, device type (desktop, mobile, tablet or bot) and - where known - the device brand and model. Detection is powered by the uascout device database for more accurate results than a User-Agent string can give on its own.

How to use User-Agent Parser

  1. Paste a User-Agent string, or click “Use my User-Agent”.
  2. Press “Parse”.
  3. Read the detected browser, operating system, engine, device type, brand and model.

Frequently asked questions

What is a User-Agent string?

A User-Agent is a text string a browser or app sends with every request to identify itself - including the browser, version, operating system and device.

What information can it detect?

It detects the browser and version, operating system and version, rendering engine, device type (desktop, mobile, tablet or bot) and, when the device is recognised, its brand and model. Some User-Agents also reveal the application and, for known devices, additional metadata.

How does it recognise the device brand and model?

The tool looks the User-Agent up against the uascout device database, which maps User-Agents to specific devices, so it can return the brand and model that a User-Agent string alone does not always contain.
